Hockey & Broomball
Pin Knockdown: Students each have a partner, a hockey stick, ball, bowling pin, and hula hoop. One student will be the defender and will guard the pin placed in the hula hoop. The other partner will take the hockey stick and the ball, and dribble around trying to shoot at other student’s pins. If a pin is knocked down the defender has to do five jumping jacks before picking it back up. Students will then switch roles.

Skill Development: Growing up in the heart of the Midwest, where temperatures are typically below zero, and there is still snow
on the ground in May, there was no question in my mind whether I was going to teach the sport of hockey to my students. We won’t be outside with skates or have pucks or allow checking but students will be learning the basics of handling a stick and the fundamental movement of striking. Students will learn how to handle a stick safely and with control along with maneuvering their ball around obstacles. |
