Striking: hitting an object with your hand, foot, or implement
|
Tennis & Badminton: The skill of striking is a great building block to add after several units on hand-eye coordination. Students will be taught how to hold a racket, ready position, forehand stroke, backhand stroke, overhead, and a basic serve. I want the students to be able to hit the ball over the net with correct form, eventually advancing to volleying back and forth with a partner. To differentiate there will be both slow bounce and fast bounce tennis balls, which serve as great success and confidence builders. Although both the sports of tennis and badminton use the motor skill of striking, students will be able to compare and contrast other game aspects.
Dead Fish: Students practice hitting the birdie or the tennis ball over the net. If they
miss or hit the net then they become a dead fish and must go on the other side of
the net and lay down. Their team mates will try to rescue them by serving or hitting the ball close to them. If the "dead fish" is able to catch a ball they are able to return to the game.
