Skill Development: During our unit of the world's most popular sport, students will improve upon ball handling skills through drills that include trapping, toe taps, roll overs, and pull backs. Students will understand how to use different parts of their foot to produce various kicks. They will focus on eye foot coordination and the importance of leading a pass and controlling their dribbling. Basic understanding of the rules and history of this international sport will be imbedded in each lesson. World Cup 2014!
Stuck in the Mud: This is a variation of a tag game where if a student is tagged they are "stuck in the mud" and must spread their legs apart and yell for help. In order to get rescued a fellow team mate must dribble a soccer ball through their legs therefore freeing them from the mud. Taggers may not tag the designated rescuers/soccer dribblers.

P.E. Games & Activities
Soccer World Cup: The gym is set up with five goals, five teams, and five balls. Each team picks a country that they want to represent. The object of the game is to not be the last team to score. Once a team has scored on any goal except their own using their ball they run back and flip their goal around, signaling they have advanced to the next round. The last team to score is out of the world cup and a new round begins. |
UNIT WORD WALL:
Trapping: To controllably slow down and control a moving ball with ones body other than the arm or the hand. World Cup: An international soccer tournament played once every four years. (The next World Cup will take place in 2014 in the country of Brazil) |
